TIPS Settles Lawsuit Against Alpine and ITW
9/26/2008 9:48:32 AM
Truss Industries Production Systems, Inc. (TIPS) has settled its patent infringement lawsuit against Alpine Engineered Products, Inc., and ITW Building Components Group, Inc.
TIPS manufactures and sells an automated jigging system known as the Wizard PDS® – Perimeter Definition System. The Wizard PDS® was introduced in 2004 and is the premier automated jigging system across North America. The Wizard PDS® essentially eliminates the set up time required to build any truss configuration, and is the most precise, functional, easy to use, and trouble-free automated jigging system.
TIPS has patented multiple features of the Wizard PDS® system. The TIPS’ patented system has an open channel between table segments and places the drive screw outside of the channel under the table, allowing debris to fall freely through the channel so that it does not jam the equipment.
In September 2006, TIPS commenced litigation against Alpine Engineered Products, alleging that Alpine was infringing TIPS’ patents by making and selling an automated jigging systems marketed as the AutoSet C4, which also placed the drive screw substantially outside of the channel. ITW Building Components was added to the lawsuit after it had acquired Alpine. After the litigation was commenced, Alpine modified the design of its AutoSet C4, moving the drive screw from under the table into the center of the channel between table segments.
TIPS has now settled its dispute with Alpine and ITW on mutually agreeable terms. The details of the settlement are confidential.
TIPS is located in Britton, South Dakota, and the Wizard PDS® is marketed by Eide Integrated Systems, LLC, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Please see www.eideintegratedsystems.com for more information regarding the Wizard PDS®.
